Park District of Forest Park

Forest Park is home to several “tot- lots” and a large Park District. The Park District of Forest Park has an Aquatic Center which boasts two large water slides, a volleyball court and a child safe water sport area. The Park District has been the site for the Midwest’s annual “No Gloves Nationals” for many years consecutively and is consistently chosen because of the wonderfully maintained fields for play. Recently the park added a rink for “in-line” skaters and a state of the art Soccer field.

The Park District also maintain the following “pocket parks”:

Lathrop North of Roosevelt
Remembrance Park: Randolph & Circle
Popelka Park: Thomas & Adams

Reiger Park: Circle & 16th

The Altenheim

In the early 2000s, the Village took ownership of several acres of undeveloped land in the front and the rear of The Altenheim, a senior living facility located at 7824 Madison Str. The front parcel is a picnic grove dedicated to Village functions such as Groov’n in the Grove summer concert series and Rib Fest; a one day BBQ Rib competition. The rear remains undeveloped. Community leaders and residents have had much discussion over its future use. An ad hoc committee was formed to investigate a proposed Cultural Park and a grant application was awarded through the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, & Conservation Assistance Program. The Cultural Park proposal can be found here and the NPS-RTCAP report can be found here.
