The Streets and Public Improvements Department is in charge of all public works, streets and alleys, except as otherwise provided by law; the entire erection, making and reconstruction of all street improvements, paving, curbing, sewers and all public improvements and repairs; the erection and maintenance of nonelectrical traffic signs on all streets and public ways and all underground utilities of the village.

This department is responsible for 30 miles of streets, 16 miles of alleys, 50 miles of sidewalk, 70 miles of sewer mains, and 33 miles of water mains.
