When does a landlord have to turn on the heat and at what temperature does it need to be set at?

Beginning September 1st through May 15th the heat shall remain no less than 68 degrees.

Does the village trap wild animals such as raccoons or feral cats?

No. You should seek area businesses specializing in this type of work.

What kinds of projects require a permit?

It is best to contact the Village prior to beginning a project to verify if a permit is required for the work that is to be done.

Permits are required for, but not limited to, the following types of building related activities:

any structural alterations or additions
plumbing, electric, mechanical alterations, additions or modifications
roofing work, construction of garages, addition of decks or sheds
installation of fences, signs, driveways, curb, and sidewalks
sewer repair, water service repair; bathroom installation/remodeling, lawn sprinkler systems
installation of pools, hot tubs and spas
demolition work.

Again, it is best to contact the Village before the start of a project to verify if a permit is required for the type of work that is planned and what information may be necessary to submit in order to obtain the permit.

Who should a resident contact for information on obtaining a permit and what needs to be submitted?

Call or visit the Village’s Department of Public Health and Safety. Additional information also is contained on this website. Informational handouts and permit forms detailing specific information are available at Village Hall. Staff members are available to answer questions. The Department of Public Health and Safety is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why is spring a busy time for building permits?

As winter ends, residents start thinking about home improvement projects that they would like to do during the summer months, such as new decks, fences, and additions, and the Village begins to see an increase in the number of applications for permits. To avoid delays or surprises, contact the Department in advance of when you intend to start your projects so that any potential delays can be addressed without causing needless delays to your project.

If a resident is hiring a contractor, will the contractor ensure that the permitting is done?

The property owner is responsible for ensuring that a permit has been obtained for a project before the work begins. Whether the resident or contractor submits the plans for the permit is up to them to decide.

Do I need to get zoning approval for my project?

Depending upon the type of project you are intending to do, such as an addition or garage replacement, you may need to get approval for the work due to zoning restrictions affecting your property. By bringing in your Plat of Survey and explaining the project you intend to undertake, Department staff can help you understand if you will need any zoning variations.
